  1. This week I learned that Biotic is a living thing that comes from something. Abiotic is a nonliving thing that's not alive. Everything that we use comes from the earth. The place that we live on is called the living sphere. The hadroscpere and geosphere support life in the atmosphere. We should take care of the earth because it is the only way we are going to servied.

  2. This week we had an introduction to the biosphere. I learned that basically everyone looks at the world from an anthropocentric, or human centered point of view. For a thing to be living it has to be:
    1. Made up of cells
    2. Able to reproduce
    3. Able to maintain homeostasis
    4. Able to obtain and use energy
    5. Highly organized
    6. Able to grow and develop

We also learned about biotic and abiotic things.
Biotic-A living thing or something from a living thing.
    Abiotic-Something dead.

In lab, we experimented with photosynthesis and how the rate of photosynthesis changes when certain components are increased or decreased.

  4. This week we started to learn about the Biosphere. We learned that in order for something to be biotic(Living) it has to be made up of cells, be able to reproduce, maintain homeostasis, obtain and use energy, be highly organized, and able to grow and develop. We also learned that abiotic is something that is nonliving. We also learned about photosynthesis, we used this in lab to see the different rates which plants photosynthesize when certain variables are increased or decreased.

  6. This week I learned that plants are made to reflect the pigment that they have from the EMS. I also learned about abiotic and biotic. biotic meants that its any living hing or anything that comes from a living thing such as a flower. Abiotic is any non living think such as tree bark becasue it did come from a living tree but it was never alive.

  7. This week in class I lwearned about Photosynthesis. It was interwesting becasue I learned that plant cells can make their own food with carbon dioxide, water, and the sun. small poors on the bottom of the leaves obsorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen. we proved this in lab this week by puting a plant in water and exposed it to light, then we watched as bubbles of gas "the Oxygen' formed on the leaves.

  10. This week in class we learned about the biosphere. We learned about how an ecosystem cannot thrive without all of its inhabitants. Also we learned about how photsynithsis occurs and what it produces and how changing the reactants what affect it has on the plant. Another thing that we learned is where photosynthesis takes place in an organism.

  11. This week we started learning about the biosphere and the flow of energy. We learned about producers and decomposers. We learned about wat it takes to be a living organism. We learned how plants are autotrophs which means they can creat there own food. We learned about how all of the energy starts from the sun.

    ReplyDelete
  12. This week we learned about the food chain, what it means to be alive, and photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process by which plants use the light from the sun to make energy. To be alive something has to be able to grow and develop, made of cells, reproduce, maintain homeostasis, obtain and use energy, and are highly organized. The food chain explains the different trophic levels and how biomass and energy pass from one level to the next. So altogether we learned a lot about the biosphere and how it works.

  13. This week we learned about the biosphere and how it works. We learned about how plants are autotrophes, which means that the plants can produce their own food through a process called photosynthesis. We also learned about decomposers and composers and what place they take in our planet.

    ReplyDelete
  14. This week we were learning about the biospehere. We learned that an autotroph are organisms that can use energy from the sunlight or from inorganic substances and make organic compounds. The source of the biosphere is the Sun. We also learned about biotic, or living things, and a-biotic, or non-living things. This week in lab we took plants and counted the oxygen bubbles that it was giving off using photosynthesis.

  15. This week we learned about the biosphere. I learned that plants are autotrophs which means they can produce their own food throught photosynthesis. I learned biotic means living and abiotic means non-living. I also learned about how the food chain has different trophic levels that explain how biomass and energy are passed through the levels of the food chain.

  16. This week we went into detail about photosynthesis. It occurs with a combination of light, water, and carbon dioxide. It includes chloroplasts and chlorophyll. PHotolysis is when light energy splits the water molecule. Autotraphs are organisms that are able to use energy from the sun and produce carbohydrates.

    ReplyDelete
  17. This week I learned more about photosynthesis and the biosphere and how they work with eachother. We learned what autotrophs are and that they are able to produce their own food through the process of photosynthesis. I learned about biotic and abiotic things. Biotic means living and abiotic means non living, but derived from. Another thing I learned was that plants have chlorophyll in them and thats what makes them green. Lastly we learned about producers, consumers, and decomposers.

    ReplyDelete
  18. This week we learned that biotic means anything living or its derivatives, and abiot is anything non living or its derivatives. Another thing we learned about was photosynthesis and autotrophs.

    ReplyDelete
  19. This week we learned about photosynthesis. We also learned about biotic and abiotic. Biotic means living. Abiotic means non-living. Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplasts which are in a plant cell. Plants appear green because they absorb all of the light in the electro-magnetic spectrum except for green. Green is relflect off the leaf. In lab, we watched plants use photosynthesis by counting oxygen bubbles. A plant in the dark did not photosynthize as well as one in the light. Adding baking soda helped speed up the photosynthesis process also.

  20. This week in class we learned about the biosphere. We discussed that the biosphere is a combination of what we have learned so far this year. The characteristics of all living things are they are made up of living cells, are able to reproduce, can maintain homeostasis, can obtain and use energy, are highly organized, and can grow and develop. I also learned the lower you eat in the food chain, the more efficient it is.

  21. This week in science class we learned about the biosphere. We learned that the original source of energy in the biosphere is the sun. We also learned about ecosystems. Ecosystems are communities of organisms and the physical habitants they occupy. We also talked about autotrophs. Autotrophs are organisms that can use energy from sunlight or from inorganic substances ad make organic compounds. A plant is an example of an autotroph. Science class this week was interesting, and am eager to learn more about the biosphere.

  22. This week in class we learned about photosynthesis and the biosphere. The lab that we did really helped me understand the concepts of photosynthesis. We also learned about autotrophs which are able to produce their own food. Most plants are autotrophs. On the last day we discussed the food chain. I was confused about the decomposers on the food chain. Can they be eaten? The biosphere looks to be a good unit.

    ReplyDelete
  23. this week in class, we had an itroduction to the biosphere. i learned that every living thing is made up of cells, can reproduce, grow and develop, use energy, and be organized. also that the lower you eat on the food chain the more efficiant those foods are.

  24. Happy Birthday Friday! This week we started to learn about the Biosphere. We learned that in order for something to be biotic(Living) it has to be made up of cells, be able to reproduce, maintain homeostasis, and able to grow and develop in an enviorment. We also learned that abiotic is something that is nonliving. We also learned about photosynthesis, we used this in lab to see the different rates which plants photosynthesize when certain variables are increased or decreased by the amount of bubbles the plants released.

    ReplyDelete
  25. In class this week we got introduced to the biosphere. We also learned that the lower you are on the food chain the more efficiant or healthy. We also learned about photosynthesis which is converting energy to produce food.

  26. This week we learned about the biosphere and photosynthesis. I learned about biotic things and abiotic things.I learned that biotic means anything relating to life or living organisms and abiotic means anything not associated with or derived from living organisms. I also learned that photosynthesis is the process which plants need in order to make food and survive.

    ReplyDelete
  27. This week we learned about the biosphere. We learned that biotic dealt with living things and abiotic dealt with non-living things. We learned how plants create food through photosynthesis and connected that process to driving our cars. We also learned about autotrophs which are organisms that can produce food on their own.

    ReplyDelete
  28. This week we started our biosphere unit.
we learned about some terms of the biosphere and about photosynthesis. Autorophs photosynthsise to produce their own food.

    ReplyDelete
  29. This week we explained how energy originates and flows through the biosphere. We learned that anthropocentric means human centered and discussed and took notes on all living things. They are made up of cells, able to reproduce, maintain homeostasis, obtain and use energy, highly developed and can grow and develop. We also learned the basics of the biosphere which included an ecosystem, an autotrophy, photosynthesis, and proteolysis. We did a worksheet on the EMS in relation to plants and the biosphere. We also talked about biotic and abiotic organisms. And we ended the week with a worksheet discussing the food chain.

  30. This week was the start of our last unit the biosphere. We learned about plants, autorophs, and the basics of the food chain.

    ReplyDelete
  31. This week we started on the Biosphere. We also learned how food chian works and how only 10% of what you eat for nutrition is taken in from the animal you have eatin. And we also learned about plants and how photosynthesis works with the sun and stuff like that.

    ReplyDelete
  32. This week we started to learn about the biosphere. We looked at members of the food chain and how energy transfers through them. Everything is made of cells, can reproduce, can maintain homeostasis, can obtain/ use energy, are highly organized, and can grow and develop.

    ReplyDelete
  33. This week in class we learned about the Biosphere, but mainly about photosynthesis and the food chain. I learned that Autotrophs are not just plants, but also algae and some bacteria. They can make their own energy/food, then other things come along and eat them, and so on, creating the food chain. In lab this week we saw some plants photosynthesize, which was kind of cool, but also confusing because my group didn't know to count the tiny bubbles on the side.

    ReplyDelete
  34. In science class this week we talked about biotic and abiotic. Biotic is living and abiotic is nonliving. We also talked about photosynthesis and Autotrophs. Autotrophs are more than just plants they are also bacteria and algae they are able to create their own food or energy. In lab we had two tubes, in each tube was a plant and water filled it a little past the plant stem. One tube was put under a light while the other had little light on it. We then were supposed to count the number of bubble we saw from each.

    ReplyDelete
  35. This week in class we started the biosphere unit. We learned how different things are classified, like biotic and abiotic. In lab this week we also worked with photosynthesis and how different things can affect the rate at which photosynthesis happens.

    ReplyDelete
  36. This week we learned about the twop vocab words biotic and abiotic. Biotic means living or things derived from a living thin. Abiotic means non-living or things that come from a non-living thing. In lab we learned about how a plant breathes. A plant needs CO2 to be able to breath. When the plant was put into a test tube with baking soda there were more bubbles than the plant that was just in the regular water with no baking soda.A plant also needs some light to be able to grow because it has cells that are on its leaves that make sugar that is used to make the plant grow. Plants are the only ones on the food chain that can make their own food.

  37. This past week we began our study on photosynthisis. We also learned that plants can grow faster or slower depending on how much sunlight and oxygen they get. in lab we had two plants one placed under a light, one in the shade. and we had to see how fast the plants began to give off oxygen. It was frustrating waiting for the plants to start giving off oxygen, but the lab was very interesting to see how the plants reacted in different types of light.

This week we learned about the biosphere and photosynthesis. Anything biotic is derrived from or is a living organism, the biosphere is made up of anything biotic. We talked about how the biosphere is really a combination of all of the units we have studied. We talked about photosyntheseis and the factors influencing it. Photosynethesis is when plants use carbon dioxide and water to make glucose (sugar). In lab we got to watch photosynthesis happen, we put plants into water and watched the air bubbles come up from the plants.

  40. This week in science class, we started learning about the biosphere which basically incorporates everything else we learned this year. The definition of biosphere is a place with life and it originally gets its energy from the sun. Some of the key concepts that we covered were the terms biotic and abiotic. Biotic means any living organism or anything derived from a living organism while abiotic means something that is not living and not derived from a living organism. This makes sense because bio means life and a means not. We also learned that an ecosystem is a community of organisms and their physical habitats. We learned about autotrophs, organisms using energy from the sunlight to make food; and photosynthesis the process of using the sun’s energy to make glucose or sugar. This process happens in plant's chloroplasts and chlorophyll absorbs the light. On Friday we started focusing on the food chain and the different levels of consumers.

  43. This week we had an introduction to the biosphere and we talked about photosynthesis. For something to be living it has to have these six characteristics...
    1. Made up of cells
    2. Able to reproduce
    3. Able to maintain homeostasis
    4. Able to obtain and use energy
    5. Highly organized

  47. This week I learned about photosynthesis, the biosphere and abiotic and biotic. I learned that biotic is living and that abiotic is nonliving. Any where that there is life is in the biosphere. Photosynthesis happens in plants and plats run this world with out plants the birds would not eat and with out birds foxes would not eat and with out foxes mountain lions would not eat and over all humans would not eat. We need that biosphere to survive.

  48. This week was mostly learning about photosynthesis. we learned about how energy orginates and flows through the biosphere, haha and in our class we made our own chain with how photosynthesis gets into Mr.Boyce's VW bus. Mr. Boyce ended up having to give us the main points but anyway, I learned that anthropocentric means human center, and the 6 characteristics of life, but most importantly we learned the chemical equation for calculating photosynthesis which is made up of energy, carbon dioxide, water and produces glucose and oxygen. During lab we watched plants photosynthesize(sp?) and we found that the more sunlight and carbon dioxide added to a plant, the more oxygen will produce, and that it will spead up. And then with the substitute we went over a worksheet that covered the energy flow and biomass pyramid, which i learned about producers, primary, secondary, and tertiary consumers, and what consists of those groupings.

    ReplyDelete
  61. This week we learned that ecosystems are communities of organisms and physical habitats they occur. Ecology is the study of interactions among and between organisms and theor physical environment. There are seven ecosystems in the biosphere that are defined by climates and organisms. Such as birds, polar bears, seals, and people in the atmosphere; as well as fish and starfish, whales, crabs, and lobsters in the hydrosphere and coral reefs in the geosphere. Abiotic means that it is not associated or derived from living organisms like the sunlight and temperature along with wind patterns and percipitation. We learned that an autotroph is an oganism that can use energy from the sun or from inorganic substances and make organic compounds. We learned that the process of photosynthesis goes from the seed planted-plant grows-plant dies-heat-pressure-long time-refined-oil. We also learned that anthropocentric means human centered and that all living things are made up of cells. They are all able to reproduce and can maintain stable internal conditions. As well containing energy and are highly organized at molecular and cellular levels; plus they can grow and develop.

    ReplyDelete
  62. This week we learned about mainly photosynthesis. We also learned about about how energy originates and flowa in the biosphere. We also learned about biotic and abiotic organisms. Biotic are alive, and Abiotic and not living. In lab, we caused photosynthesis to occur by adding light and CO2 to the plant, Elodea. The lab this weeek i thought was quite boring. But by maybe using a cooler plant this lab could be made more interesting.
