Week #7 February 15-21
Please use this space to share what you know about volcanic activity. What do you remember from middle school? What have you seen on TV or in movies? Next week we will learn about volcanic activity and why they erupt when they do.
last year we learned about volcanoes and how and why they errupt. i sort of forgot everything about volcanoes, but i do remember some stuff. volcanoes are openings in the earth's crust which allow volcanic ash and magma to flow from the middle of the earth onto the surface.(think of it as a way for earth to vent. volcanoes are normally in places where tectonic plates are diverging and converging boundaries occur.
I dont really know too much about volcanic activity besides the stuff that we've learned in class these past two weeks. I know that the "ring of fire" is an area with many volcanoes. I know that volcanoes are formed from the different plates that are on the Earth.
I remember learning about volcanic activity last year but I have forgotten a lot of it. I know that there are under ground volcanoes and volcanoes on the ground. The ones under water will eventually create islands like the Hawaiian Islands. Magma comes out form the earth’s outer core and it is kind of like the earths way of breathing. I know volcanoes are formed on the earth’s plates.
This week we learned about volcanoes. I learned that volcanoes form on the earth's plates. Volcanoes are on the ground and under the water. Lava comes out of the volcanoes, it is magma when it is underground.
Last year we learned more about what rocks came from volcanoes and what rocks were around them. We didn’t really learn that volcanoes are cause by the very thin crust so that was new to me. And from what I remember we studied volcanoes for about two days maybe.
Last year we spent a couple weeks learning about plate tectonics and rocks. We didn't really cover volcanoes as much, but we still learned a little. In school we learned that many volcanoes have formed islands and other land forms but that is as much as I remember. My uncle is a geologist in Hawaii and works on/ by volcanoes so I have kind of learned a little from him.
This week we learned about plate tectonics and there shifting. We went over why the layers are the way they are. It is due to dencity. Core is made of iron and radioactive waste. The mantle is made of olivine. the crust is made of fulspar...
This week in class and lab we learned about the plates and how their boundaries move. Converging boundary are two plates that slide towards each other. Diverging plates are two plates that move away from each other. Transforming Plates are two plates that slide next to each other in opposite directions. Covering boundaries make oceanic trenches, mountain building, and volcanoes. Diverging boundaries make oceanic ridges. Transforming boundaries make strike-slip fault lines.
We didn't learn about Volcanic activity, so I really have no idea what it is, If i had to guess it has to do with the magma that comes out of a converging boundary, that also has to do with the fact that on my notes in in parenthesis under a geologic feature under that. So thats about the only thing i know about Volcanic Activity
This week in science class we studied plate techtonics. Also we talked about how converction currents move the platers and why different from of rock are at different areas of the core. Another thing that we learned about is the layers of the earth and what they are made of, called, how dense they are.
I learnd that there are diferent parts that are inside the eath. The Inner core is sold and it is the hotes part of the eath. the outer core is sertounding the core and it is little cooler with some some movent. Lower mantle is a liqut subbstent and that were you start to find diferent rocks. the Upper mantle is also a ligut but it is cooler than the Lower mantle and we also called magma when it rishes. the last part of the earth is the crust and it is ware life apend and end too. It is ware earthwrak begends and volcala from.
I don't really know much about volcanos other than they have a chamber inside them that holds their magma. I can't remember why they erupt but when they do the chamber is empited. I know that there are different types of valcanoes and they all look different as well as erput differently.
This week we talked about the plates of the earth and where they're located. We learned about the three types of boundries, Transforming, Converging, and Diverging. And how each of those makes a different type of geological feature. We also talked about the layers of the earth, and the types of rock that are there and why they are located there.
I don't really know much on volcanic activity because we really didn't spend much time on it. I know that volcanoes are made from the plate boundaries and a volcano erupts because of a hotspot and there are three classifications of volcanoes, active, dormant, and extinct.
I honestly do not remember any knowledge about volcanoes from last year... But, I do remember what we learned this week! We learned the three types of plate boundaries, the Theory of Plate Techtonics, and earth's layers. The three types of plate boundaries are; 1. Converging- the plates are moving towards eachother. 2. Diverging- the plates are moving away from eachother. 3. Transforming- the plates are sliding agianst eachother in opposite directions.
The Theory of Plate Techtonics is: The surface of the earth is broken into pieces(plates) that move and shift due to the convection currents in the earth.
The layers of the earth going down are: Crust, Upper Mantle, Lower Mantle, Outer Core, Inner Core.
This week we learned about volcanoes, plate tectonics,the theory of plate tectonics and plate boundaries. I learned that there are two kinds of plates, oceanic plate and continental plate and they move on top of asthenosphere. I also learned that there are three kinds of plate boundaries and they are Divergent boundaries and those are plates that are moving apart from each other.Convergent boundaries are the one that are moving towards each other and the last one is Transform fault boundaries which is the plates that are sliding past each other.
I learned about volcanoes last year but dont rember all that much. I rember that the ring of fire is a area which has alot of volcanoes. And volcanoes create islands. There are 3 stages of a volcanoe: active, dormant, extinct.

This week we learned about the earths plates. There are only three reasons earthquakes happen and they are converging, diverging, and transforming. We also learned about the layers of the earth. I remember these layers from 8th grade because we had to draw a diagram like we did on one of the homework assignments and I felt this was a reveiw.
This week we learned about the three types of plate boundaries: transforming, converging, and diverging. We also learned about what other geological structures are formed by each one. We reviewed the theory of plate tectonics and learned about the layers of the earth. The layers are (going from the surface of the earth to the inside) crust, upper mantle, lower mantle, outer core, and the inner core. There is also the asthenosphere and the lithosphere which are between the upper mantle and crust. Finally we learned what each layer was made of.
Last year when we talked about volcanoes I learned that there are different types. There are compositee, sheild, cindercone and lava dome volcanoes. Each has different characteristics, like how they were formed, what they are made of etc. Volcanoes are also a result of converging boundaries.

At my middle school, we didn't learn much about volcanoes or plate boundaries. So this week I learned a lot. The 3 types of plate boundaries; transforming, converging, and diverging. And how they move and what they cause. Converging, is when 2 plates move together and they usually create mountains. Diverging, are 2 plates moving apart, creating sea floor spreading. The transforming boundaries, is when 2 plates slide next to each other, creating faults in the floor of the sea. Along with learning the 3 different types of plates, we learned about the theory of plate tectonics and the layers of the earth, which are the inner core, outer core, lower mantle, upper mantle, and the crust. We also learned about earthquakes, like the one in Haiti, and how they are created along major plate boundaries.
This week we learned about plate tectonics and the different ways they shift. In middle school we didn't really learn anything about the different ways they shift(Converging,Diverging, and Transforming. We only learned that plates shift to form earthquakes. We also learned the different layers of the earth and what they all our by actually drawing it out. We also learned about volcanoes and where exactly and when they erupt.
I think that Volcanic Activity occurs because of pressure build-up in the mantle and outer core. The pressure is released when water vapors are forced up through the surface in to the open air.
I remember a little bit about volcanoes. I remember that they are vents from the mantle and below to the surface, and they can be active, dormant or extinct. It occurs because of pressure built up under the earth's surface. ~Allie
This week in science lab, we learned about the theory of plate tectonics. This theory states that the earth is broken up into pieces called plates, and these plates are moved on top of the earth's liquid mantle by convection currents. We also learned that coming up with the theory was a lot more difficult than we had thought. In lab, the example was putting a broken plate back together without being able to manipulate the pieces. This was especially hard for kids who normally have trouble building puzzles.
I learned there are about three different types of volcanos but i can not remember their names. There are many different types eruptions some make lava go all over the place others the lava is very slow moving. I learned that volcanos are like cracks in the earths crust were lava can get out easly and when they erupt it is because the prusser built up by the lava is so strong.
This week I learned about the different boundries such as transforming, converging, and diverging. In middle school I never learned about these and I never knew what they were capable or creating. It's hard to imagine mountains being created and that some of the largest mountains are in the ocean. I also learned that the converging boundry can create volcanoes. The earth is much more than it appears to be and the plates always move like a liquid.
I learned that below the earths crust there is different types of metals. The core is solid. Mostly. But I learned when the earths core stops heating and cools off there will be no more earthquakes. The earth could start to be more flat too. And no more mountains will be forming or volcanoes erupting.
All I really know about volcanoes is that they explode, and there in magma in them which heats up enough thus causing explosion from top of the volcanoes. I also know once the magma that is on the surface is now called lava, then the lava cools and dries.
I don't really remember learning too much about volcanoes/ volcanic activity in middle school. I know volcanoes can be active, dormant, or extinct. The pressure builds up in the outer core and mantle. This week I learned a lot about plate boundaries. There are tranforming, convering, and diverging. Each boundary is different in many ways. This week's lab really helped me understand the different boundaries.
During science class this week, we learned many interesting facts regarding the earth’s five layers. From the crust down into part of the upper mantle is a region known as the lithosphere. From the upper mantle into part of the lower mantle is a region known as the asthenosphere. The lithosphere is solid, and the asthenosphere is partially molten. Both the lithosphere and asthenosphere were interesting to learn about and are very important to have knowledge about in order to understand the earth’s five layers.
I learned about the different layers for the earth. Crust,mantle, and core. And i also learned that each layer is made out of differet kinds of rock. The layers can also be liquid or solid and thats pretty cool. And i learned that shock waves can go through the different layers and that can cause earthquakes
I don't really know much on volcanic activity because we didn't spend much time on what they actually were. I remember that The Ring of Fire is an area along Asia, North America, South America, and Australia. Along that area, there is over 50% of the world’s volcanoes. And the hot stuff, is magma when it is underground, but it is called lava when it reaches the surface of the earth. I know that there are two kinds, active and doormat. But, I don’t remember much else from middle school.
this week, we learned about volcanos. There is an area sorounded by volcanos, called the ring of fire. one thing that i worry about is the supervolcano in yellowstone. apparently, it is powerful enough to extinguish a lot of life, and to change norrth america significantly.

I dont really remember much from last year but i do remeber is that when they erupt they can cause alot of damage, and when one erupts it does not just blow up for like 2mins they can last for a long time with lava just flowing out. i dont think there are too many active valcanoes to this day but i do know the ones that are still active can really caouse alot of damage.
this weeek in class, we discussed abunch of stuff about volcanoes and plate techtonics. we learned how the plates shift and move. we also did abunch of review over everything we have learned.
I think it is when a covergent boundary occurs between two plate tectonics. A covergent boundary is when one plate tectonic collides with another. I do not remember anything from last year.
I do not remember much from previous years about volcanoes, but i do remember that it was somewhat boring. What I do remember is the "Ring of Fire" that also happens to be on a plate boundary. I also remember that like earthquakes, volcano eruptions are difficult to predict. As you can see I do not know much about volcanoes and I want to learn more.
These past weeks in class I learned about the three different plate boundries: Converging- two plates that move into eachother, Diverging- two plates moving away from eachother, Transforming-two plates sliding next to eachother. I have also learned about the components in the earth.
All i remember from middle school about volcanoes was that magma is forced up through and earth's crust and erupts, but I don't remember how. Volcanoes in movies and on TV are portrayed as natural disaster that can change the lives of many in a city or town.
Well i know that volcanoes are basically weak spots in the crust where the molten rock in the mantel can push threw the crust. The are created near convergent boundaries where an oceanic plate sub-ducts under the less dense continental plate and creates a weak spot in the crust. Volcanoes erupt because of pressure build ups in the mantel because of convection currents. Thats all i remember.
Volcanoe eruptions are hard to predict and it's an opening from earths crust and lava comes from it, thats about all i know from volcanoes and pastyears in middle school
This week we learned about plate tectonics. I've never learned much about this, so it was pretty new to me.I know feel like i have a grasp on it and am prepared for the quiz. What I didn't understand was how the lab this week furthered my understanding. I don't think this lab was very benefitial for me.
Volcanoes are very dangerous but interesting acts of nature. In the Pacific oceans there is the ring of fire. Which is a ring of volcanoes strewn about the outskirts of plate boundarys. In movies volcanoes are portrayed to be destructive and scary things. But we dont have to look at them like that, no doubt they can be destructive and scary, but they are just natures way of saying hello. I know there are different types os volcanoes mountains too. I feel like there is one called a cone? Im not sure but that pretty much it that i remember about volcanoes.
I forgot almost everything we learned last year other than that the majority of volcanoes are along plate boundaries or on hot spots in the crust. Volcanoes are areas where the pressure from the mantle is released by magma. Thats all I remember from middle school.
I didn't read the question properly. So to answer your question I know very little about volcanoes. I never learned about it in middle school. I do know that it is a soft place in the crust that magma flows out.
i don't know much about volcanoes but i do know that lava comes out of mountains and then ash and stuff falls everywhere. i don't remember learning anything about volcanoes in middle school except that a volcanoe erupted in washington a while ago and it made a mess.
I first studied rocks and volcanoes in sixth grade, but I do not remember anything from that unit. I knew a little bit about volcanoes, because my class last year went on a field trip to see an IMAX film about the Ring of Fire. I still do not remember too much about this though. The coolest thing we learned this week was what happens at each different type of plate boundary.

I remember learning about volcanic activity for the most part, but I may be a little off on some of the details. I mostly remember that volcanoes erupt when the magma underground builds up and bursts out of the hole, then out of the hole comes volcanoes. Other than that, we didn't really focus too much on volcanoes.
I think that volcanoes happen a lot with diverging boundaries. The plates come apart and magma comes up and forms lava. The lava comes through a volcano when it erupts. After the volcano erupts, the lava cools and hardens. It forms new land. Volcanoes can be pretty violent and deadly.
In middle school last year, we mostly covered the geology and rocks and didn't touch as much on volcanoes, but I know that the lava inside of a volcanoe shoots out (possibly from the pressure of the lava). I'm not sure under what circumstances that they erupt or why but there are lots of old ones that do not erupt anymore.

This week we learned about plate boundries. I remember that divergant and convergant boundries cause volcanic eruptions and if we had on in Yellow stone park it might cause the super volcano to erupt.
I learned in class this week was that most volcanic activity happens from the different plates and there movement or plate tectonics. One of them is a diverging where the plates are moving away from one another. Second is a converging plate where two plates come together and the oceanic or less dense plate moves under the continental or more dense plate. Lastly is the transforming plate boundery is when two plates rub agianst each other or move side by side (although this plate is more causing of earthquakes.) These are many different ways that volcanoes can occur.
On friday all we did was review our vocab, and talk about our grades. We just wrote all of our vocab on the board and compared what we knew with each other.
What i know about volcanoes is that they are mostly dormant, but there are different kinds i know and some are more dangerous than others. LIke pompeii, when some erupt it can be catastropic.
In middle school, we may have learned a little bit of information about volcanoes, but I do not remember it. We did watch a movie in sixth grade about Mt. Vesuvius and how devastating it was. Other than that, my knowledge about volcanoes is fairly limited. This week we learned about the different types of boundaries. Diverging is when plates move away from each other. Converging is when plates push directly against each other. Volcanoes are most commonly formed on converging boundaries.
I remember watching a show about volcanos and they destroy everything they pass. The volano in Italy ruined everything and millions of people died in the volcanos. They either died from heat or from suficating in the ashes. the place was buried in ashes and they are still finding things that were made in the time because it is still covered with ashes. the crazy thing about it is that people live in the island where the volcano erupted and the the volcano is still active and could erupted at any moment! so millions of people could die all over agian.
I know that there was a big volano eruption and alot of people died. the funny thing is that the volcano is not dormant and it could erupt at any moment and people are still liveing on the island.
This week i learned about the theory of plate tectonics and why the earth's crust moves. Convection currents are a huge involvement with plate tectonics. The theory is not totally proven but most believe that that is the truth, and it really happens.
Volcanos form from hotspots or thin layers in the crust. The lava was previously magma below the surface, main diffrence. Erruptions release dangerous gases into the atmosphere, and spred ashes around for miles, covering almost everything. Volcano erruptions are much more predicable than earthquakes. The reason we know about th materials inside the earth is from the anilization of lava that has cooled Volcanos tend to be on plate barriers, but every once and a while an island pops up in the middle of a plate, like Hawaii. Most of the volcanos are under water, there is a particularly famous set of volcanos commonly called the ring of fire. Volanos distroy alot when they erupt, but fortionately that dosent happen often. The most famous of the erruptions is Pompay, it totaly distroyed the italian town and about 200 people survived the erruption.

The outer core is made up of liquid iron and radioactive elements that decay and release energy. The lower mantle is liquid and this is where convection currents come from. The upper mantle or the asthenosphere is somewhat solid. As the distance from the core increases, materials begin to solidify. The crust or the lithosphere is solid. This is where the plates are located.
I don't know much about volcanic activity. On TV, I have seen the magma in volcanoes can destroy everything in a village. These volcanoes are very dangerous, but also very rare that a volcano is active.

i remember learning about Mt. St. Helen and how it destroyed everything. i remember hearing about all the tragedies and deaths. i also remember learning that not all volcanoes are bad. like Hawaii is made from volcanoes.
in eighth grade we learned about tectonic plates and volcanoes. one of the first things that came back to me was that you can tell a volcanoe is about ready to erupt when there are alot of earthquakes in that area.

I've learned that volcanoes are erupted by the build up of gases and when these gases are released they shoot up in the sky along with melted liquid rock called "magma" or volcanic rock, which can cause horror and a cool sight to see.

Last year in school I did not learn much about volcanoes but from what I do remember they are hard to tell when they will erupt and that there is a amount of gas that come from a volcano that is ok for humans to be around. I was watching history channel and they were doing a documentary on one of the worst volcanoes and a lot of people were not able to get out fast enough. When the magma hardened it was a great way to preserve the people so years later when they finally uncovered every thing the people would not have decomposed all that much.
middle school taught me nothing about volcanoes. we spent so much time memorizing rocks that the rest of the curriculum is a bit of a blur. i can remember key words like cindercone, ring of fire, etc. but i have absolutely no idea what any of them mean. the only thing i know about volcanoes is that they're basically vents for underground magma. they're big openings in the surface of the earth through which magma can escape.
this week we learned how volanoes work. And how convergant and divergant boundires affects how the volcano reacts to it. In my science class last year we didnt talk about this stuff. i dont think we even talked about Volcanes and how the respond to the plate boundries
I remember going to science fairs and watching the baking soda and vinigar volcanoes and being amused becasue of the explosion, but never understood them fully. I learded that they are caused by faults in the earth that connect to underground streams of magma that come up to the surface of the earth becasue of pressure. volcanoes can make new land from the hardening lava. thus recycling the earths surface.
This week we learned about plate tectonics. We mainly learned about plate boundries though, we learned that there are 3 types of plate boudaries; converging, diverging and transforming. They each result in different surface reactions like volacoes and mountains.

last year we learned about volcanoes and how and why they errupt. i sort of forgot everything about volcanoes, but i do remember some stuff. volcanoes are openings in the earth's crust which allow volcanic ash and magma to flow from the middle of the earth onto the surface.(think of it as a way for earth to vent. volcanoes are normally in places where tectonic plates are diverging and converging boundaries occur.

The ones under water will eventually create islands like the Hawaiian Islands. Magma comes out form the earth’s outer core and it is kind of like the earths way of breathing. I know volcanoes are formed on the earth’s plates.

ReplyDeleteLast year we learned more about what rocks came from volcanoes and what rocks were around them. We didn’t really learn that volcanoes are cause by the very thin crust so that was new to me. And from what I remember we studied volcanoes for about two days maybe.
ReplyDeleteLast year we spent a couple weeks learning about plate tectonics and rocks. We didn't really cover volcanoes as much, but we still learned a little. In school we learned that many volcanoes have formed islands and other land forms but that is as much as I remember. My uncle is a geologist in Hawaii and works on/ by volcanoes so I have kind of learned a little from him.

Diverging plates are two plates that move away from each other. Transforming Plates are two plates that slide next to each other in opposite directions. Covering boundaries make oceanic trenches, mountain building, and volcanoes. Diverging boundaries make oceanic ridges. Transforming boundaries make strike-slip fault lines.

So thats about the only thing i know about Volcanic Activity

Another thing that we learned about is the layers of the earth and what they are made of, called, how dense they are.

The Inner core is sold and it is the hotes part of the eath. the outer core is sertounding the core and it is little cooler with some some movent. Lower mantle is a liqut subbstent and that were you start to find diferent rocks. the Upper mantle is also a ligut but it is cooler than the Lower mantle and we also called magma when it rishes. the last part of the earth is the crust and it is ware life apend and end too. We also learned about the layers of the earth. I remember these layers from 8th grade because we had to draw a diagram like we did on one of the homework assignments and I felt this was a reveiw.

ReplyDeleteAt my middle school, we didn't learn much about volcanoes or plate boundaries. So this week I learned a lot. The 3 types of plate boundaries; transforming, converging, and diverging. And how they move and what they cause. Converging, is when 2 plates move together and they usually create mountains. Diverging, are 2 plates moving apart, creating sea floor spreading. The transforming boundaries, is when 2 plates slide next to each other, creating faults in the floor of the sea. Along with learning the 3 different types of plates, we learned about the theory of plate tectonics and the layers of the earth, which are the inner core, outer core, lower mantle, upper mantle, and the crust. We also learned about earthquakes, like the one in Haiti, and how they are created along major plate boundaries.

We also learned the different layers of the earth and what they all our by actually drawing it out. We also learned about volcanoes and where exactly and when they erupt.

This week in science lab, we learned about the theory of plate tectonics. This theory states that the earth is broken up into pieces called plates, and these plates are moved on top of the earth's liquid mantle by convection currents. We also learned that coming up with the theory was a lot more difficult than we had thought. In lab, the example was putting a broken plate back together without being able to manipulate the pieces. This was especially hard for kids who normally have trouble building puzzles.

In middle school I never learned about these and I never knew what they were capable or creating. It's hard to imagine mountains being created and that some of the largest mountains are in the ocean. I also learned that the converging boundry can create volcanoes. The earth is much more than it appears to be and the plates always move like a liquid.

But I learned when the earths core stops heating and cools off there will be no more earthquakes. The earth could start to be more flat too. And no more mountains will be forming or volcanoes erupting.

This week's lab really helped me understand the different boundaries.
ReplyDeleteDuring science class this week, we learned many interesting facts regarding the earth’s five layers. From the crust down into part of the upper mantle is a region known as the lithosphere. From the upper mantle into part of the lower mantle is a region known as the asthenosphere. The lithosphere is solid, and the asthenosphere is partially molten. Both the lithosphere and asthenosphere were interesting to learn about and are very important to have knowledge about in order to understand the earth’s five layers.

I remember that The Ring of Fire is an area along Asia, North America, South America, and Australia. Along that area, there is over 50% of the world’s volcanoes. And the hot stuff, is magma when it is underground, but it is called lava when it reaches the surface of the earth. I know that there are two kinds, active and doormat. But, I don’t remember much else from middle school.

ReplyDeleteWell i know that volcanoes are basically weak spots in the crust where the molten rock in the mantel can push threw the crust. The are created near convergent boundaries where an oceanic plate sub-ducts under the less dense continental plate and creates a weak spot in the crust. Volcanoes erupt because of pressure build ups in the mantel because of convection currents. Thats all i remember.

ReplyDeleteVolcanoes are very dangerous but interesting acts of nature. In the Pacific oceans there is the ring of fire. Which is a ring of volcanoes strewn about the outskirts of plate boundarys. In movies volcanoes are portrayed to be destructive and scary things. But we dont have to look at them like that, no doubt they can be destructive and scary, but they are just natures way of saying hello. I know there are different types os volcanoes mountains too. I feel like there is one called a cone? Im not sure but that pretty much it that i remember about volcanoes.

I knew a little bit about volcanoes, because my class last year went on a field trip to see an IMAX film about the Ring of Fire. I still do not remember too much about this though. The coolest thing we learned this week was what happens at each different type of plate boundary.

Volcanos are were magma is pushed out of the earths core through a open area in the earths surface. These open areas are caused by plate tectonics.

I mostly remember that volcanoes erupt when the magma underground builds up and bursts out of the hole, then out of the hole comes volcanoes. Other than that, we didn't really focus too much on volcanoes.
ReplyDeleteI think that volcanoes happen a lot with diverging boundaries. The plates come apart and magma comes up and forms lava. The lava comes through a volcano when it erupts. After the volcano erupts, the lava cools and hardens. It forms new land. Volcanoes can be pretty violent and deadly.
ReplyDeleteIn middle school last year, we mostly covered the geology and rocks and didn't touch as much on volcanoes, but I know that the lava inside of a volcanoe shoots out (possibly from the pressure of the lava). Volcanoes are extremely dangerous and deadly. I know that they have to do with divergent and convergent plate boundaries and hot spots. I'm not sure under what circumstances that they erupt or why but there are lots of old ones that do not erupt anymore.

One of them is a diverging where the plates are moving away from one another. Second is a converging plate where two plates come together and the oceanic or less dense plate moves under the continental or more dense plate. Lastly is the transforming plate boundery is when two plates rub agianst each other or move side by side (although this plate is more causing of earthquakes.) These are many different ways that volcanoes can occur.

ReplyDeleteI remember watching a show about volcanos and they destroy everything they pass. The volano in Italy ruined everything and millions of people died in the volcanos. They either died from heat or from suficating in the ashes. the place was buried in ashes and they are still finding things that were made in the time because it is still covered with ashes. the crazy thing about it is that people live in the island where the volcano erupted and the the volcano is still active and could erupted at any moment! so millions of people could die all over agian.

ReplyDeleteVolcanos tend to be on plate barriers, but every once and a while an island pops up in the middle of a plate, like Hawaii. Most of the volcanos are under water, there is a particularly famous set of volcanos commonly called the ring of fire.
Volanos distroy alot when they erupt, but fortionately that dosent happen often. The most famous of the erruptions is Pompay, it totaly distroyed the italian town and about 200 people survived the erruption.
This week we finished our lesson on geology. Geology is the study of the Earth. I don't know much about volcanic activity. On TV, I have seen the magma in volcanoes can destroy everything in a village. These volcanoes are very dangerous, but also very rare that a volcano is active.

ReplyDeleteThis week in class we learned about plate techtonics what happens because of converging, diverging and transforming plates. Ex: Converging plates can make volcanoes, mountains, and oceanic trenches. Diverging plates can cause oceanic trenches. And transforming plates can cause earthquakes.
ReplyDeleteLast year we talked about volcanoes but I do not remember much about them. I do know that they ocure on fault lines and hot spots.

This week in lab we learned about plate tectonics and hot spots and what happens when convergant and divergant boundaries occur.
ReplyDeleteLast year in school I did not learn much about volcanoes but from what I do remember they are hard to tell when they will erupt and that there is a amount of gas that come from a volcano that is ok for humans to be around. I was watching history channel and they were doing a documentary on one of the worst volcanoes and a lot of people were not able to get out fast enough. When the magma hardened it was a great way to preserve the people so years later when they finally uncovered every thing the people would not have decomposed all that much.
ReplyDeletemiddle school taught me nothing about volcanoes. we spent so much time memorizing rocks that the rest of the curriculum is a bit of a blur. i can remember key words like cindercone, ring of fire, etc. but i have absolutely no idea what any of them mean. the only thing i know about volcanoes is that they're basically vents for underground magma. they're big openings in the surface of the earth through which magma can escape.
ReplyDeletethis week we learned how volanoes work. And how convergant and divergant boundires affects how the volcano reacts to it. In my science class last year we didnt talk about this stuff. i dont think we even talked about Volcanes and how the respond to the plate boundries
ReplyDeleteI remember going to science fairs and watching the baking soda and vinigar volcanoes and being amused becasue of the explosion, but never understood them fully. I learded that they are caused by faults in the earth that connect to underground streams of magma that come up to the surface of the earth becasue of pressure. volcanoes can make new land from the hardening lava. thus recycling the earths surface.
ReplyDeleteThis week we learned about plate tectonics. We mainly learned about plate boundries though, we learned that there are 3 types of plate boudaries; converging, diverging and transforming. They each result in different surface reactions like volacoes and mountains.
ReplyDeletePlate tectonics is the theory that the Earth is broken into pieces, called plate,, which float on top of the mantel.
ReplyDeleteLast year we learned more about what rocks came from volcanoes and what rocks were around them. We didn’t really learn that volcanoes are caused by the crust moving so that was new to me.
ReplyDeleteLast year we learned a lot about the different kinds of rocks and where they are formed. We also learned about plate tectonics, plate boundaries, and how volcanoes are formed.
